Buffalo River Watershed Alliance
White River Waterkeeper and Ozark River Stewards are organizing an algae survey on the Buffalo River this coming weekend. Thanks to many students across the state from subunits of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society for helping us carry out this endeavor on such short notice. We still have a couple canoes and training spots available for available volunteers that would like to assist with collecting data. No previous training is required; however, attendance at the training workshop (Saturday, August 18th, 2-5 p.m.) is mandatory for those participating in the survey on Sunday. Spots are limited. Sign up quickly! Can't make it to the training workshop or dedicate time on Sunday to participate in the survey, but would like to help in other ways? We still need a few volunteers to help us shuttle boats and people Sunday morning and afternoon. Although we are limited on canoes and GPS units for survey teams, if you have a GPS enabled smartphone or camera and can photo document presence/absence and extent of algae in tributaries and upper sections of the Buffalo River, you can greatly contribute toward this and other efforts. Indicate your interest here, and read below for more details. Fill out this volunteer form if you are interested in lending your time and talents.
