Public Listening Session Scheduled for Public Input on Assessment Methodology

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) will hold a public listening session in North Little Rock, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, to receive input on the 2018 Assessment Methodology. This listening session will be Phase I of a three-phase review process. Input received during the listening session period will be considered in the next two phases which include stakeholder workgroups (Phase II) and a formal comment and response process (Phase III). Rather than a formal response to comments, Phase I listening session input will be central to discussions in subsequent phases.

The listening session will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Commission Room at the ADEQ Headquarters, 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock. The listening session input period opens now, and the deadline for submitting written input on the Assessment Methodology is 4:30 p.m. (Central Time) October 31, 2016.

Arkansas must assess the waters of the State every two years to determine whether or not they are attaining their designated uses and water quality standards. The Assessment Methodology contains procedures for making these assessments. If waters do not attain either their designated uses or water quality standards, they will be placed on the Impaired Waterbody List (303(d) List).

Information about the Assessment Methodology, related documents, review schedule, and the sign up for the Assessment Methodology list serve can be found on the ADEQ’s website at: https://www.adeq.state.ar.us/water/planning/integrated/assessment/default.aspx

Oral and written input will be accepted at the public listening session, but written input is preferred in the interest of accuracy. In addition, written and electronic mail input will be considered if received no later than 4:30 p.m. (Central Time) October 31, 2016. Written listening session input should be delivered or mailed to: Mary Barnett, Water Planning, Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, 5301 Northshore Drive, North Little Rock, AR 72118.
